The Medieval times is simply referred to the Middle Ages in the history of Europe. This era started with the collapse of the Roman Empire and went till the Renaissance period. The period of 5th to 15th century is commonly known as the Medieval era. Medieval times were among the most trans-formative and exciting times in the history of the world. This era is quite famous in history for a lot of things and among these things, Medieval armor received a lot of fame and appreciation.
Armor was considered to be of utmost importance to any king, soldier or warrior. Especially when going to the battlefield, the armor of a warrior was known to be his shield, represented his sense of discipline and showed off his personality. Different types of armors existed in this era. One form evolved into the other but some components remained the same. Let’s have a look at these components and types of armor.
Plate Armor:-
The history of Plate armor goes back to the Romans and Greeks. After the fall of the Roman and Greek civilization, plate armor almost ceased to exist but then was later developed during the late Medieval Era. Plate armor is actually a complete body armor which encases the wearer completely. It is normally made up of steel but sometimes armor suit made up of iron was also worn. Another thing that was quite famous about this armor was the coat of plates designed on the armor representing the estate it belonged to.
Leather Armor:-
The leather armor is also a very renowned armor among all Medieval armor. This armor is known for its durability. The thickness of leather secures the body of the warrior encased in it. It’s also a full body armor but was majorly seen to be worn till knee length specifically around chest and waist.
ChainMail:-
We have seen this armor in so many movies and were even obsessed and fascinated by it as well. Well, I was and still am! They usually provided head, neck and shoulder protection but a full body chainmail armor covered chest, arms and legs as well. Chainmail actually refers to the material it is made from. As the name so clearly explains, the material is made up of small rings of metal constructed in the form of a mesh.
Helmets:-
Another major component and a renowned artifact of the Medieval armor is the helmet. Worn by knights throughout the centuries, the helmet was a major component of the armor and protected the knight from head attacks and injuries. Lots and lots of variations are found for helmets and some of them are quite famous till now as well.
